What is the letter WEE ?
The letter WEE is a mono-syllabic version of the traditional letter DOUBLE-U . The two letters are written the same way, and have exactly the same usage in written English:
Upper Case: W
Lower Case: w
Name: “WEE”
Upper Case: W
Lower Case: w
Name: “DOUBLE-U”
WEE and DOUBLE-U have the same pronunciation when spoken as part of a word. In other words, they are identical except in their names.
WEE is the logical extension of the existing scheme for naming letters in the English alphabet to the letter formerly known as DOUBLE-U . Eight of the eleven other consonants whose names begin with a consonant end with a long 'e' sound, "EE": BEE, CEE, DEE, GEE, PEE, TEE, VEE, and ZEE. The exceptions are JAY, KAY, and KYU ("Q"). Some efforts have been made to institute other new names for DOUBLE-U, such as DUB, WUB, and WAH, but these are all inconsistent with the rest of the alphabet.
